DIFFUSE CORONARY ARTERIAL ECTASIA WITH HYPERTROPHIC CARDIOMYOPATHY

A 40 year old male, a known case of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, was admitted for catheterization. At catheterization and angiography, septum was hypertrophied to about 5cm and diffuse coronary artery aneurysm was revealed. We found no previous report of coronary artery aneurysm in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Sarcoplasmic reticulum calcium defect in Ras-induced hypertrophic cardiomyopathy heart.

The small G protein Ras-mediated signaling pathway has been implicated in the development of hypertrophy and diastolic dysfunction in the heart. Earlier cellular studies have suggested that the Ras pathway is responsible for reduced L-type calcium channel current and sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) calcium uptake associated with sarcomere disorganization in neonatal cardiomyocytes. In the present s...

Disease-modifying mutations in familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: complexity from simplicity.

Cardiomyopathies are primary disorders of cardiac muscle associated with abnormalities of cardiac wall thickness, chamber size, contraction, relaxation, conduction, and rhythm. They are a major cause of morbidity and mortality at all ages and, like acquired forms of cardiovascular disease, frequently progress into heart failure.1 In contrast to dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), which is characteriz...

Gene mutations in apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

BACKGROUND Nonobstructive hypertrophy localized to the cardiac apex is an uncommon morphological variant of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) that often is further distinguished by distinct giant negative T waves and a benign clinical course. The genetic relationship between HCM with typical hypertrophic morphology versus isolated apical hypertrophy is incompletely understood. METHODS AND RES...

Tcap gene mutations in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and dilated cardiomyopathy.

OBJECTIVES We sought to explore the relationship between a Tcap gene (TCAP) abnormality and cardiomyopathy. BACKGROUND Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) cause severe heart failure and sudden death. Recent genetic investigations have revealed that mutations of genes encoding Z-disc components, including titin and muscle LIM protein (MLP), are the primary cause ...
